Unit Manager for Medical Diagnostics Unit Karolinska (MDK) Study Support

The Medical Diagnostics Unit Karolinska (MDK) Study Support is the common unit of the function to support studies, both initiated from industry and academia, with medical diagnostics.

The unit offers services in both imaging diagnostics and laboratory medicine and pathology. We assist trialists with study planning, sample handling and logistics, biobank sampling, data extraction, and expert help in radiological matters.

About the position

As a unit manager, you lead and distribute work for a team (approximately ten employees) consisting of research nurses and study coordinators. The responsibility includes work environment, recruitment, salary setting, employee dialogues, finance, environment, and quality work. In the role, you collaborate with operational managers and other managers within the clinical operations as well as with clinical researchers and doctors within Karolinska. You have active dialogue with various researchers/companies regarding the initiation and implementation of studies and are expected to be involved in continuously developing our collaboration. You have the financial responsibility for your unit and are expected to develop the operations through continuous follow-up with both controllers, researchers/trialists, operational managers, and external parties. You report to the operational manager and are part of the management group for operational activities.

The role includes having overall responsibility for:

  • The quality delivered within the study support is high and provides conditions for increased utilization of MDK's diagnostic services in studies
  • Ensuring that your employees have the right conditions to carry out their work effectively and sustainably
  • Representing and promoting the operations in relevant contexts and meetings

We are looking for you who

  • Are a proactive, solution-oriented, and driven leader who is responsive to the needs of employees and customer groups

  • Possess good planning and organizational skills and ensure to create routines and structure within the unit.

In the role, you are expected to possess good clinical competence and judgment in order to support the employee group in dialogues with clients. The managerial assignment can be combined with clinical duties. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Clinical academic educational background (for example, radiology nurse, biomedical analyst, or specialist physician with a specialty in any imaging or laboratory medicine specialty).
  • For service as a specialist physician, a Swedish medical license and specialist certificate in the relevant specialty are required.

Meritorious:

  • Previous managerial experience
  • Previous work with clinical studies

About the recruitment process

Expert assessment is a prerequisite for obtaining a specialist physician position at Karolinska University Hospital, where the position level is determined based on the applicant's qualifications.

Criteria for specialist physician positions at Karolinska University Hospital:

  • Associate chief physician position at Karolinska University Hospital requires at least three years of full-time clinical service.
  • Chief physician position requires at least five years of full-time clinical service in the main specialty in addition to obtained specialist competence as well as a defined medical responsibility and knowledge area, as well as documented teaching and mentoring merits. For chief physician positions, a doctoral dissertation is also required.

For experts to be able to decide on the position level, the application must include the following:

  • Karolinska's merit list for physicians electronically filled out according to instructions with service time and leaves of absence totaled and signed and verified by non-relatives
  • Proof of specialist competence
  • Proof of medical doctoral degree (if applicable)
  • Proof of docent (if applicable)
  • Publication list, specify a maximum of ten selected publications
